Looking to buy a sprayer, not for everyday use but enough houses to warrant buying over renting.(Exterior). Anyone have any advice. I'm in a bit of a jamb in terms of needing it tomorrow/Saturday. Looking to keep it $500 or less. Any info would be appretiated.

Got to Home Depot and get a Graco. You can get it fast and cheap.:)

I have used the Magnum by Graco DX Airless Paint Sprayer (http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&productId=100069365) for a couple of years now. I don't have any complaints for the price, you can get it for under 300 bucks. If you spend more you can get a higher duty rating, longer hose, maybe better volume, but it does the job quick enough and well enough for me. You can spend a little more if you plan on using it a lot, but this one has done a few houses and has yet to show signs of decreased performance.

It is easy enough and small enough to use indoors, but works great outdoors especially if you have 2 people spraying. One can spray until there arms start to get tired then the other takes over, with the resting person dragging the bucket and sprayer along and keeping the paint in the bucket. It works fine out of a 5 gallon pail, even though it seems like it is just a bit too short to fit in perfectly. It is easy enough to show someone how to use and clean up in just a few minutes if they are at least a little bit handy.

The first time we used it was 2 put 4 coats (2 primer, 2 color) on fresh stucco on the exterior of a 2200 square foot house. That was the only time took longer to paint than to prep and cleanup, and it wasn't by much. I have never had any trouble getting it primed or using it, and it cleans up pretty easy. If I were buying one (I convinced a buddy of mine to get it when we were updating the exterior and of his rental) I might look for better as I can be a bit of a tool snob, but now I have this one to borrow and am content. It would have been cheaper to rent one that one time, but we eventually used it to paint his whole house inside as well, as he fixed up each room, and again to freshen up each time his tenants move out. It takes longer to prep a room than it does to spray it.

I am sure you could get better, but based on your time constraints (which were the same as ours) you might be best off at Home Depot unless you have time to poke around your local paint or rental/sales stores.

Thanks Jonathon...Good to hear someone who has used the magnum sprayers. Think I'm leaning towards picking one up.
