I was watching one of THOSE shows last night. I know you pros don't approve and here is why. They were tiling the bath walls around a tub using 1x1s on sheets.

Made the statement, "Since we're going to tile right over the sheet rock we are going to use a pre-mixed mastic. It doesn't dry as fast so we have more time to work." Yeah, like about a few years extra. :lol2:

Now all that was bad enough but it also wasn't exactly true. See, they were tiling over the wallpaper on the sheet rock. How fast can forum members yell failure simultaneously?

Neesie,
What show was that? I want to see if I can find it in their archives.

Here is the link. It even has pictures. After reading the page I don't think they went all the way up the wall but still.....! The show was Bathroom Renovations on DIY. It came on at 9:00PM EST. The episode is called Old World.

If this had been done in a tub/shower area, I'd agree it would be destined to fail. However, after poking around that link, it seems it's just for a soaking tub which doesnt get nearly the amount of water on the walls as a regular shower. Is it the right way to do the job? Absolutely not! Will it last 20 years? Probably.

PS- Amy Matthews has to be the worst of them all....

I guess it doesn't seem nearly as bad since they didn't take it all the way up the wall. I still worry about the weight of the tile pulling the paper right off the sheet rock. I think you are being generous with the 20 years but I bet it will last long enough for her to sell the place.
