2 Questions - Framing A Bbq And Tar Paper

1st Question Is I Just Tore Out An Old Floor To Prep For Tile. What Looks To Be Old Tar Paper(it Was Buried Under A Layer Of Lino And 2 Layers Of Vct) Has Only Partially Come Up. The Remainder Looks Like It's More Tar Than Paper At This Point And Is Pretty Well Stuck. Tried Multiple Scrapers And Jasco. Question Is, Will The Thinset For The Backer Adhere To This Or Should I Staple Some Wire Down To Give The Mortar Something More To Bond To?

Next Question. Anybody Have Any Simple Explanation On The Best Way To Frame A Drop In Bbq?

The point of the thinset under the board isn't to adhere, it is to fill voids. So, you should be just fine to put your board down.
