I have a second floor shower in a 1960s home that I have not used since I bought it 2 years ago due to grout that apparently got loose and eventually washed away. The floor is solid and I attempted to remove any additional loose grout and found most of it solid. Only one 1x1" tile came loose. I bought pre-mixed sanded grout for the floor at Home Depot only to find out that it is not recommended for showers. Am I on the right track with this project and if so, what kind of grout do I need?

In addition the walls are 10% missing grout, I've loosened the loose stuff and was going to reapply unsanded grout to these with pre-mixed, however, the directions say do not seal?! I am puzzled by this. Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks!

I'd scrape out all of the grout since you'll never match what's on there now.And i wouldn't use anything from HD that's premixed. You'll hear more of the same from the people on here.Usually if there's a loose tile, there's more to follow.Keep an eye on that. Finally,go with a grout that you mix with water, the Custom grout from HD is fine.

I agree and wonder if the tile was set with mastic also. The reason you don't seal premix is the premix is like mastic, not cement, and it's more like latex paint, with sand actually.
