I am tiling a house that is 1800+ all the floors have vinyl. It is 12 yrs old and in very good shape. Problem is this cushion vinyl. It is soft and in front of the fridge is a couple of small tears. I have read about 20 threads on vinyl and they talk about removing all kinds but in most post it says not cushion. In another post one guy said he hasn't seen cushion vinyl put down that was less then 20 yrs old. That made me start to question myself. What is this? It is sheet vinyl. It is also on concrete. How do I remove it? I want to put the tile right on the concrete but if I can't get all this stuff up then what is the best board to put over concrete. Thanks

I usually cut it in strips and pull it up, then use a scraper with one of those 4" sharp blades and scrape up what's left over. You won't be able to use cement board.

what about the glue? Should I heat the vinyl up 1st? Or try and take it up in layers?

The glue usually comes up with the scraper.I use the long handle type they have at HD, and Lowes, or flooring stores.I've never heated up vinyl.
