Hi there, names bobby and I need a little advice. I finished up a limestone shower a couple weeks a go. (i know but thats what the client wanted) 3x6 walls staggered and 6x6 floor/lid/seat. the problem is the 6x6's were pretty porous so i pre-sealed before grouting. while i was sealing the lid some drops fell on the floor & seat. I thought no biggy since i covered it with sealer minutes later. well after grouting i noticed white spots in those area's. now i know sealer re-activates if you put more on it and scrub, but i had a very slight haze problem (not really but the client thinks she knows all) so i scrubbed it down w/customs haze remover.now i would think that a mild acidic cleaner like that would have stripped the spots out,but no go. so i keep telling the client they will vanish when i apply the final sealer but i'm not to sure. my question is i used customs cheapest pen.sealer for the grout release, and the final seal is going to be with a high end expensive sealer (name escapes me now) will it re-activate a different sealer? will it re-activate at all? any advice would be very appreciated. :yeah:

Hi Bobby,

Sealer reactivation wholly depends on the product. Pleas list those you have used.

I JUST PRE-SEALED IT WITH CUSTOMS CHEAPEST PENATRATING SEALER (THATS WHAT LEFT THE SPOTS)I PICKED UP AT H.D. THE FINAL SEALER IS STONE TECH'S BULLETPROOF. WILL THE STONETECH RE-ACTIVATE THE CUSTOM'S BRAND?

Hi Bobby

Here is the way to include images as Attachments (http://johnbridge.com/vbulletin/faq.php?faq=vb_read_and_post#faq_vb_attachment_explain)

Another way to post pictures would be to host them on a site like ImageShack (http://imageshack.us/) and link back to them in your posts. The host site will automatically format the pictures and give you the code so you can just copy and paste it in your post.

The fact that the spots turned white makes me wonder if there is not something else gooing on - specifically since you tried to remove the grout haze with an acidic product. Do you have any of the original sealer left? Do the spots temporarily go away if the tiles are wet?

THE SPOTS DON'T BECOME VISIBLE UNTIL I WET THE STONE :shake:

So the spots only become visible if the stone around them gets darker when it gets wet?

In that case, I think that the spots are sealed very well and actually repels the water like they should. The rest of the stone gets darker because it is not sealed yet.

That is if I understood you correctly :laugh2:

Nice shower! :clap2:

I WAS THINKING THAT TOO. OR MAYBE THE SPOTS WERE PRE-SEALED BETTER THEN THE REST OF THE SHOWER,THEN WHEN I GROUTED IT KIND OF STAINED EVERYWHERE BUT THOSE SPOTS. IF THATS THE CASE, WHAT DO I DO? TRY AND REMOVE THE SEALER AND THEN TRY TO STAIN THE SPOTS TO MATCH?.........I JUST WANT TO FINISH....OH YEAH AND GET PAID :yipee: :clap2: :yeah:

If the final sealer will not be an enhancing sealer, I would just go ahead and seal the shower according to the instructions on the container. If all works out as it should, the entire shower will repel water and nothing will get darker any more.

Wait - you might want to test first. See if you can replicate the dops with a scrap tile and some left-over al-cheapo sealer. Then seal with the Bulletproof. See if there is a sealer interaction (something weird like the spots turning purple or something :D ) If nothing happens, just seal the whole shebang and be done with it.
