So I've posted in the past how I'm having a hard time with possible hard water causing build up in my rain shower head and making my dark colored tile shower look dirty moreso than it should. Unfortunately I have absolutely no room to put in a whole house water softener or filter. My main concern is with my shower, so I've been looking into point of use filters.

I've found one from a company named "sprite" though I'm not sure if it will solve my problems. I guess I'm a bit ignorant/uniformed regarding what I need to keep my shower in better shape. The filter I'm looking at gets installed behind the shower head and purports to remove the following from the water:
Free chlorine
Combined chlorine (sodium hypochlorite)
Lead (trace amounts)
Hydrogen sulfide (rotten egg smell)
Iron oxide (rust water)
Dirt, sediment, odors

Would this solve my problems or no? Does anyone have suggestions on what I could do?

Thanks.

Lucas

Lucas, you should also post this question on Terry Love's plumbing forum.

That "Sprite" filter contains activated carbon. It will not help you if you have hard water. If you do not have the room for a softener it gets a little more difficult to deal with your scaling issues. There is a cleaning product called CLR that does a great job of removing the scale from things like shower heads. Have you had a water analysis done? Do you know your actual hardness? Do you know your pH?

so how do I get my water tested??

I've tried using CLR on my showerhead and it really didn't help much. I've got all sorts of buildup on the tips of my rain showerhead and I soaked it in CLR for 5-10 minutes with minimal success after scrubbing etc.

This really is frustrating. Thanks for all the guidance and suggestions!
