My girlfriend just moved into a new town home with granite kitchen counter tops and tile on the bathroom floors and counter tops. On the walk-through on the home she was told to buy a "grout sealer" and apply this to the grout only. She was told it was "quick and easy". She bought a product called "TileLab 4 Care finishing Sealer: Matte, Sealer and Finish for stone, grout and tile. Protective finish for Saltillo, Terra Cotta, Slate and Flagstone" and she began applying it to the grout on the granite tops with a small sponge paint brush. I have not personally seen the result but she says it's difficult to keep the product just on the grout and that a residue sheen can be seen on the granite surface itself. She has stopped until we get more advice. Does this sound like a job for a professional? We have no previous experience.

I am no expert by any means. But, I was able to "polish" off the excess sealer from the tile. Using a clean dry towel.

As for getting already dried sealer off the tile someone with more experience will have to chime in.

Also, did the directions say anything about clean up?

Thanks for your reply, Mike. Apparently the bottle says nothing about clean up. She says she tried to buff it out while wet and it wouldn't wipe off.

Hi Doug :)

I strongly suggest you have your girlfriend remove the product that was applied, and stop using it. It is a topical coating, not a impregnating sealer.

Does the granite darken with water? If so, the granite will need to be sealed as well.

Once the original product is removed, applying an impregnating sealer will be much easier.

Thank you, John. What do we remove it with? I'll check on the color of the tile with water added.
