I have just laid unsealed saltillos on my covered porch and was told I would have to use an oil based sealer for outside. I noticed Aqua Mix has a Saltillo Tile Satin Finish produce that says it's good for interior or exterior but I thought this was a water based product.
I used Aqua Mix on the interior entry tiles which are the same tiles. I had a problem with them after grouting. I put on two coats for the finish and most of the tiles look like something sticky was spilled on them. (I'm assuming I have to strip and start over with those).
I don't want the same problem to happen with the porch tiles so how should I go about this? Thank you.

You must have done something wrong with the sealer inside. The Aqua Mix sealer you used should have been fine. Although if we were doing it we would have used three coats of the Satin (Lowes name for Aqua Mix Seal and Finish Low Sheen). After the three coats of the Satin you should have used two coats of Aqua Floor Shine and Hardener. The directions on the bottle say just the three coats is enough, but we have specialized in Mexican Pavers for over 25 years and we always put the Shine and Hardener over the top. At this point the inside should be stripped and resealed.

On the outside I would recommend a penetrating type of sealer rather than a coating. If you are set on using a coating then the Aqua Mix Satin will work better than anything else because of it's ability to breathe. (See my website for more information on this http://www.tilesealing.com/mexicanpavers.htm

Very few tilesealing people would recommend a solvent based sealer for a topcoat outside. Those who do are probably carpet cleaners, not Mexican Paver specialists.
