Jest like it says what are some things to watch for? I was told that i should peel the shiney layer off of the vinyl to mud my 1/4 Hardi Backer down. also heard i should use a special bonding agent on top of vinyl to get the thinset between cbu and vinyl to adhere better. the house is 100 years old with 2 layers of 1X8's with 1/4 plywood on over that.

Hi Shane, :)

I don't think you have to do anything special unless it's the old cushion vinyl (which I haven't seen in at least twenty years). The thin set doesn't need to bond to anything. It's the nails or screws that hold things together. :)

Everthing will be fine as long as the 1/4" is removed, and 1/2" plywood installed before the 1/4" hardi (installed with thinset). ;)
