Clyde,

I'd wish you a happy birthday, but I don't believe in them anymore. Best wishes. ;)

Thanks, everyone! I had a really good birthday. Actually spread the celebration over several days. We started by having Megan, Drew, and Jeremy over on Wednesday night. I did baby back ribs on the grill (a REAL family favorite) and then we sat around and watched Clemson barely win their final home game in the NIT BB tournament. In between we let Jeremy entertain us. :clap2: Frances and Megan even managed to get all 63 candles lit on my cake without burning the house down. The old man is still pretty good 'cause I blew 'em all out in one breath!. Almost set the smoke alarm off! :laugh2:

Frances got me a nice steamer/cooker set. Thursday we started searching for a place to get some fresh oysters. Finally found a good seafood market in Greenville and picked up a bushel on Friday. Came home, got a tank of propane, finished assembling the burner and sat on the deck, steamed and shared 5 dozen oysters.

On my birthday, I took the day off and didn't even think about the house projects. In the afternoon, we decided to take off and drove into NE Georgia for some spring sightseeing. It was about 86 in Clemson. Saw lots of spring color. Came back, picked up a couple of extra items at the store, went home and started to celebrate. Split a bottle of champagne and a small round of brie and crackers. A little later we decided to have some more oysters. Only split 3 dozen this time. Tonight we'll finish off the oysters and then it's back to work tomorrow. Oh, and jay f, sorry, but I'm already retired.

Umm, didn't know you could get oysters over there. Last we had were on the Oregon Coast. They harvest them here, but we're still a bit afeared from the last time somebody got sick on them. :)

Sounds like a party.

John, I love oysters on the half shell, but won't risk them anymore. What a shame. These oysters were from Apalachicola, FL. We still feel pretty safe eating them steamed. Too bad the kids don't like oysters. That means Frances and I have to eat them all by ourselves. Hee hee!

Happy birthday Clyde. Since you're spreading out your celebration, I won't even apologize for being a day late. :D :aparty:

At least one us can retire. My wife spends so well that I'll probably die while kneeling down, face covered in thinset! Just kidding. :lol2:

Happy birthday Clyde! Aren't they fun. I don't dread them. I'm happy for every single one I get. :clap2:

We do the oyster thing all the time but we don't cook 'em over here the way you folks do. 'Course, we get 'em fresh since we are just a coupla hours from Appalachicola. I've notice that folks on the east coast always cook 'em.

Neesie, you still eat them on the half shell? I love oysters that way, but had a bad experience in Mobile a number of years ago at a meeting. I've had a few on the half shell since then, but always with a little fear and trembling. I love them steamed too. Feel a little safer that way.

I agree about the birthdays! As long as I am in decent health I'll take every one I can get.

I has some arsters up on the Oregon coast last summer that were very good. Fried em'. I agree that the half-shell deal will be nevermore. ;)
