I am installing a 16x16 travertine floor, I have a large area done. I sealed the tiles before grouting ( the day before ) but there seems to be some hazing or etching on a few of the tiles the next day. It is a honed travertine, I want to clean it before resealing and I was wondering if a 50/50 vinager/water solution might etch the tiles. I do have a tile and stone cleaner from the depot and I was thinking I would use the vinager first, clean water, tile cleaner, clean water. Or should I just play it safe and use the tile and stone cleaner?

Been searching thruogh some old threads and it would seem not using the vinegar is the way to go, I think Ill try the cleaner that I have. It says on the bottle it"s for stone, that and some hot water and a soft scrubby shuold take care of it. It really is"nt too bad, just a few spots. Thanks anyway.

Chuck, you is right. Acid will etch the travertine, killing the shine.

Acid will work on non acid sensitive ceramic and porcelain tile (almost none is sensitive to acid). It is usually OK on granite, but never on marble or travertine or limestone.
