Hi all,

I'm new here, so please be tolerant of my ignorance and/or rambling!

We put in a Jerusalem Gold backsplash in our kitchen just about two years ago, and have not sealed it because we liked the light color and flat finish and didn't know at the time about sealers that wouldn't change that. But now I've seen enhanced j. gold, and I really like how it brings about depth and variation.

So I think I'd like to enhance it, but don't want it to end up darker; if it darkens, it will be too similar to our granite and make everything way too monochromatic for my taste.

My question: is there a product, similar to grout colorants, that I can apply to the stone to make it a bit lighter before I enhance (thus making it darker again)? Or is this a really foolish idea and I'm looking for trouble?

I can't seem to figure out how to post a link to a pic; I keep getting an error. Sorry!

Thanks in advance,

Lori

Hi Lori, Welcome! :)

Nothing is a foolish idea! It is good to ask first though (when you don't know the outcome).

The only way you can lighten a stone, is if it is heavily soiled, and then you clean it. Otherwise, that procedure isn't available. You always want to do a TEST area, previous to committing to the entire area.

In your case, you must determine if you want it natural or enhanced. Once the surface is enhanced, there is no returning it to its original state. If you're looking for a subtle change, I suggest TESTing with Stone Tech Enhancer Pro.
