For my bathroom project, we decided to use a marble threshold to transition from the tile floor to carpet. We found a "dirty" marble one that's the perfect size and matches our tile very well. Unfortunately, they only had one left that wasn't damaged.

Well here's the rub, it obviously had a price sticker on the front at some time and now the marble has a dark spot that won't seem to come off. The coloring isn't bad, it's just a perfect rectangle, so you can tell it's not natural.

I've tried Goof-off, denatured alcohol, and soapy water -- none with any effect.

Is there a way to clean off this stain, or am I destined to return it and start the search anew?

Thanks,

You've went one way with cleaners,so let's go the other way,i'm assuming this is a carrera marble, try some commercial hydrogen peroxide, the 30% to 40% from a beauty supply, mix the peroxide with some, unscented baby powder, oughta do it, i know you have some around the house, into a paste, then lay this paste on the stain and cover with a damp paper towel overnight and see if some of the stain is removed,if it removes some try it again, if nothing comes out, maybe try a commercial poultice,if this is too much trouble for a threshold i'd buy a new one.

Thanks. I will try to see what we have around the house (hair dye and such), but the baby powder might be a special trip.

When I tried the harsh cleaners, I was going under the assumption that the stain was acutally leftover adhesive (which there was some), but sadly that sticker melded with the marble. DOH!

I'll check out another HD in the area and see if they have a better, non-damaged selection. Worst case, the tile supplier near me can get them, albeit at 3x the price.

Thanks again.
