Floor Buffer to clean grout?

So, the grout in our kitchen/entryway is very very dirty. Heck, untill I found this site I didnt even know you were supposed to clean/reseal grout.

So anyway. Since I am lazy. My wife suggested that we rent a big industrial floor buffer and that would clean the grout. I just used a basic grout cleaner from lowes and a scrubby to clean a section of grout and wow, it looks nice.

So anyway, am I stuck cleaning each grout line. Or is my wife correct and I can use the buffer. And if so, anyone know what type of pad?

I use a white pad and neutral stone and tile cleaner, myself, if needed i use an alkaline cleaner.

If you have used a floor buffer before then go ahead and have some fun.

What sort of tile do you have and is your grout an unsanded version ?

I have not used the floor buffer yet, wondering if it works on the grout :)

Dave is that white pad the type for a floor buffer. Sorry I am dense sometimes. :)

The white pad goes on the buffer, when you rent one ask for one, it will only come with a backer pad, you'll need to buy the white pad.Hopefully the backer is a soft velcro one that will help the white pad get into the joints.

You CAN use a buffer. Ask for the brush attachment for ceramic tile, not the pad attachment for smooth vinyl floors.

If you've ever used one, you know that it's possible to wreck a wall if you don't know how to manage one.....so don't experiment near your priceless Ming vase...

Assuming you know how to use one, 'heel' the machine by tilting it in one direction when the brush is on the grout line. The weight of the machine will help scrub the grout line.

You still gotta rent a big 'ole industrial wetvac to vacuum up that mess you'll be creating with alkaline and then acidic cleaner, right?
