I just copied this from my other forum, so you wont know the area..but entertaining nonetheless.

I just bought myself a brand new Digital SLR Canon EOS along with a professional L series 70-200 f/4 lens...yeah the big ass grey and black lense. I've been carrying it around like a baby for the past week. I think I'll continue to do that...

LOL...you wont believe this:

This afternoon we're coming home, southbound on Bonaventure Dr at Southland (behind WalMart). Red light and I decide to move over to the right lane in the gamble someone's turning left, even though there's way more cars. All of a sudden this silver Acura comes FLYIN by me in the left lane..."he's not gonna stop...." WHAM!!! right into the back of a Black BMW and bounces into a cabbie and mini van. All of a sudden I see his back-up lights go on..
"He's taking off!!!....quick, Heather, hand me my camera" (yeah my new one with the big lens!!) I start snapping pictures in burst mode. He backs up...does a U-turn and takes off northbound right by us. Snapping pictures the whole way. The BMW and cabbie also do U-turns and take off after him. We pull into the WalMart Lot and phone 911. Cops come and I give my statement along with the pictures. The cop just starts to laugh.
This is what I managed to get:

The insurance company for the guy in the BMW should offer to pay for your camera.

2 questions Dave :D :
How many bursts did you have your setting on?
And, Can you please post one of the burst shots?
Id love to see the step by step into KABLAM!

I didn't get the actual hit...I watched the hit, watched the glass go flying..and then reached around the back to grab my cam. The burst isn't all that fast. Only about 3.5 fps. Most of the pics were blurry as I was kinda jumping out of my van at the same time. Those were the best of the bunch. My cheaper Minolta Dimage has a tremendous burst. 15 fps!!! and what's better..is you hold the shutter down for as long as you want..when you stop..the camera will hold the last 15 pictures. But there's no way that cam would've focused as fast as the Canon Rebel SLR...the focus is INSTANT...and INSTANT power on. The camera was off when I grabbed it. Just started shooting, and it turns on

Any injuries to folks in victim car? Here in California, hit and run is a misdemeanor, hit and run with injuries is a felony!

Interesting point, John. I asked the guys if they were okay..and they all said "oh yeah we're fine.." but they had just finished chasing this guy thru streets and lost him...so they're probably full of adrenaline.

Here's my new baby that captured all the excitement:

Nice clear shot of the license plate. The cops were probably at the house waiting for the silver acura.

So this story is growing exponontially. The first site I posted the pics on Beyond.ca (http://forums.beyond.ca/showthread.php?s=&threadid=168264) has received over 175,000 hits today alone. It has been cross-posted all over car forums and news sites all over the web. One major newspaper interviewed me and it will be front page tomorrow. CTV National news is airing a story about it tonight, and will be interviewing me tomorrow as well. The site that I'm affiliated with Pokerknights (http://www.pokerknightsonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5009) was originally the one that asked that any donations be made to the Crohns and Colitus Fund of Canada. Donations (http://www.pokerknightsonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5037)
The power of the internet is scary!!

Umm..I really hope you mean that in a purely rehtorical light hearted manor. I would never do such a low thing. Yes he's my son. He's in hospital right now, after having come close to death saturday night. His large intestine walls had swollen to 10 times its normal thickness and was bleeding internally. It's still touch and go whether they remove it and put him on "the bag". He's an otherwise vibrant healthy 20 year old and also my right hand man in my work and my "best friend". Certainly doesn't deserve to be put through the hell that Crohns causes.

Hey Dave,

I think you might have misunderstood Prashter. I believe when he said, "that kid", he meant the driver of the car you photographed. That's how I read it anyway.

03-13-2007, 08:55 PM
AHHHHhhhh Oh oh oh....sorry man!! Yes...I re-read your post, Prashter. Sorry dude, that was my mistake.
I'm dealing with this whole hospital thing and my son's Crohns right now and thats been on my mind the most...One of the threads as well as the radio mentioned my son and donations to the CCFC and was just reading a view negative comments about that, so I just jumped to conclusions. I'm sorry Prashter. Thanks for stepping up like that, DDMoit

On a lighter note; I sure wouldn't mind getting paired with Stacy Keebler:

Stacey Keebler,
She looks like a real Cute cookie.....

Sorry to hear your son has Crohn's.. It's not a fun disease..
Mine is in remission, and hasn't flared up recently.. Tell him that a fellow Forum guy asked about him and wished him luck... :tup2:

Sorry to hear about your son; I hope he is doing better.

But I'm confused about the traffic thing. Isn't that normal driving in Canada?

On a serious note: Dave, you guys are in my prayers. Keep up a positive attitude the best you can. :)

Dave, so sorry to hear about your son having to deal with Crohns. He's definitely in my thoughts and prayers. My sister-in-law has dealt with it her whole life. First surgery at 16. What a difference that made. She's in her early 60's now, does very well most of the time.

I read some of the comments regarding your photos. Loved the enhancement of the passenger's expression. I definitely think he needed a change of underwear! So the turkey driver's mother made him turn himself in.

Dave,

My son recently had an appendectomy. Some minor issues afterward turned out to be nothing, but we momentarily lived in fear of Crohns. It was a very small taste of what you must be going through. I wouldn't wish it on anybody. If there's such thing as Karma, things should be looking up for you these days.

prashster
03-14-2007, 07:53 AM
Yeah, I meant the kid in the pic.

My sympathies to your son and to you. As a parent of 2 kids myself I know that anything that ails them hurts me infinitely more than if it happened to me, so I understand yr sensitivity.

My receptionist's 23yr old daughter has had Crohn's for a decade now. They're troopers, but I know it's been a struggle.

Dave and all,
The website Platewire (http://www.platewire.com/) allows users to report traffic violators and plain-ole stupid drivers, as well as commend good drivers or other exceptional roadway behavior. I don't know how widespread it is, but several police officers in my area monitor the site and follow up on complaints that they read there.
If somebody pisses you off on the road, you can post their license number and vent rather than explode behind the wheel. :)
