the parade in detroit is always the sunday before st. patricks day, the usual thing for me is bring the wife and kids down to see the parade and then in to the irish/american club for some beer and conversation, ( thats tomorrows plan). i never wear green on these days as i think its alittle over done,(i just bring my accent). we always dress our kids in their irish county football jerseys, that way we can always pick them out in a crowd. so to all have a great and safe time and remember no green beer , thats a sin.

Half Irish, half Italian here. Thought about making my handle read "McWop", but I guess I would offend the thinner skinned.

Matthew McHugh----McTile..get it? Very Irish. Wife was born Erin Matlock. Two Very Irish girls as well-Kaitlyn(1yr) and Emma(5yrs). We love St. Patricks Day. I just love the fact that on that day, drinking beer and eating food all day is a given. No questions asked. :loaded:

I'm full blood Irish, Great Grand Dad came here for the Gold Rush, struck it big, and settled here.

My wife is Irish by injection.

My grandfather's family all wore something orange on March 17th.....And probably the only day of the year they didn't go to the neighborhood tavern...English and Dutch types.

We were deported out here by the NYPD. :D

A friend of mine's uncle went to visit his roots in Ireland and trace the family tree. He sent a telegram to my friend's father, his brother. "Have reached point where horse thief marries prostitute. Shall I continue?"

They must have written this for you Stephen...

MALONEY WANTS A DRINK
The Dubliners

When Eve was in the garden, Adam climbed an apple tree.
He went aloft up to the top to see what he could see.
He gazed in awe, for what he saw fair made the poor man grieve.
Ah, Patrick John Stephen Maloney stood there, whispering to Eve!

CHORUS: So kiss me, love, and miss me, love, and dry your bitter tears.
My loving you'll remember now for many, many years.
Be happy, love. Be satisfied I left you in the pink.
There's many a man may want a bride. Maloney wants a drink.

Salome danced for Paddy, taking off her seven veils.
"Salome," said Maloney, "that's a trick that never fails."
Maloney put Salome's only clothing in a sack.
"I'll run along down to the pawn and bring your bundle back!" CHORUS

From London to Nebraska and from Glasgow to Hong Kong,
From Cardiff to Alaska and from Peking to Saigon,
Wherever the girls are lonely, I'm sure that in his role,
Ah, it's there you'll find Maloney, a-waiting to console! CHORUS

Does anyone remember the big stink about some Irish folks were complaining about how it makes Irish people look like drunks? They wanted them to change the fighting Irish logo on college ball.. I guess they dont have a problem with St.Pattys day though.

Scott,
i dont have a problem with the logo for the fighting irish, i think its cool. But u got to remember that on ST. PATRICKS DAY its every nationality in the world thats getting drunk and "wearing green" not just irish, so u cant stereotype the irish for been drunks.
Back home in ireland today is a religous holiday and then yes we do go to the pub and have a few drinks, but remember pubs in ireland are a social place where people go to meeteach other not just a place to get bombed.

Steve, Im not stereotyping anyone, I just remember not too long ago, that some of the Irish were up in arms about the logo. I guess the same could be said about the Natives wanting the Cleveland Indians to change the chief wahoo logo..

Every Paddys day we would go to the parade in Philly, then we would go to the Men of Kilarney club and they would have a few beers and always sing the night that Patty Murphy died. :clap1: mom would make the best Irish potatoe candy. My great Grand mother came from Ireland.
