I am curious to know what type of shower pan construction is used in the large strip hotels in Vegas.
Anyone?

While I never set tile in Vegas,(came close to doing a stint down there but got held up in CeourDlene longer than expected) I would have to assume they do a standard PVC membrane,An old lead pan, or a Hot Mops type pan. but, i am assuming.
We use all PVC pans in motels around here with the exception of roll ins where we use a combination pan, PVC and trowelable.

I'm guessing right along with Todd. I'll bet he's right. I can't imagine them doing anything other than PVC.

Figure they use the fastest method possible, not necessarily the cheapest. Downtime costs money.

I've seen LOTS of hotels recently with precast Jacuzzi shower pans, even if there is extensive tile work elsewhere in the bathroom.
btw, it's Coeur D'Alene (core duh lane'). One of the funniest TV moments I ever saw was during the Goodwill Games; Larry King was doing the studio host thing, and said something like " and now we're going to Steve Largent with an update on Lake .... on a lake in Idaho. Steve?". Ol' Larry wasn't even going to TRY to pronounce it on the fly. Beautiful place, but I think there are still lots of Waco-types in them thar hills and Spokane ain't exactly plush for being and hour away AND the closest big city west of Minneapolis.
But hey, at least there's a good little brewpub in Coeur D'Alene. :D:D:D

Okay, Tom, je parle francais, but I've never known who Alene was or is. What is at the "heart" of this? ;)
As a kid I remember spending a night in in a campground in Coeur d'Alene on the way from Wyoming back to Seattle. Seems to me it was hotter than hell over there.
The plastic shower bases make sense in hotels if they are only going to do a greenrock job on the walls, and I'll bet there's a lot of that going on. I just never get to Vegas. :)

I love French. Only took a year of it in high school way back when and wish I had continued and applied myself a bit more studiously. I am surprised how much of it I retain. And while it is not as romantic as Italian (shades of "A fish called Wanda"...), my wife does relish the occasional french phrase.
Heart of Awl is the literal translation. No idea what that means. I believe that the native american tribe had the name before it was also applied to the lake and city. A little odd to have French references this far west.

French were all over that territory in those days, laid claim to half the country. Except Texas, of course.
Heart of the awl, hmmm, well being the forum poet I'd point out that the heart of the awl is not the point, but the position opposing, i.e. where you place the pressure on the heal of the awl. Knowing very little of the French explorations, but knowing something of their typical nomenclature at that time, I'd say there's either a geographical coincendence to an awl, the heart of that is,,, or being the romantics they were, perhaps a member of the exploration team died as a result of a sharp stick to the heart (maybe the local natives twisted it 'round about). Typical, happened a lot. The French left stories all across their explored territories by the names of places. Some wonderful stories/myths surround their namings of places.
Here's my personal favourite... the story of Petit Jean Mountain in Arkansas... beautiful place, here's the story...

I saw the hunter's moon fall on Adrienne's resting place.
The hang gliding wasn't pleasant, I was too inexperienced for such a narrow valley. Swimming in the hole was great in August.
