Can anyone recommend a product or home made mixture which would clean soot off of a brick fireplace surround?
Thanks
George

Here is a link to your question. http://www.doityourself.com/stry/soot
Buy a chemically treated soot sponge, available at janitorial supply stores. I use to work for a guy who owned a fire restoration buisness under the "Service Master" name. We used these all the time and they work miraculously. We also used a liquid soap they have but in different areas of the house. Read that article, it is very informative. :goodluck:

Hi George :)
Here's a cleaner available from Prosoco. I have not yet used it, but have heard of others that have had success. Fireplace Cleaner (http://www.prosoco.com/ProductDetail.asp?ID={88818C75-3B61-4086-9CF0-5F4B547BA4B9})
