Hi,

I'm hoping somebody can help me. I chose unglazed ceramic tiles for my kitchen and utility earlier this year and they are just impossible to clean and keep clean.

I'm wondering if it's possible to maybe glaze them or at least apply some type of treatment to them so that the dirt does not stick to them as easily.

I am cleaning them every day at the moment just so they look nice. Any help would be fantastic and will go a long way to prevent me from going crazy!!

thanks,
Elmarie

Hello Elmarie,
I imagine since your tile is not glazed a penetrating sealer was applied to it before grouting. I am guessing your floor is hard to clean because your tile has alot of texture to it? You could use synthetic liquid (mop and Glow) or paste wax(Johnsons) which are topical type waxes and will fill all the nooks and crannies but this will create a routine maintenance in itself. Don't forget this surface is topical and that means it wears out over time. So you will have to reapply the wax of your choosing routinally. ;) But probably a whole lot easier to clean on a daily basis. If you choose this route try it in an inconspicuos place like a closet or somewhere else hidden from view to see if you like it. That's my humble opinion anyway

Hi, thank you for your info. The tile never had a sealer applied and I think this is where we might have gone wrong. It is a smooth surface tile though not pitted with nooks and crannies etc. However I'm presuming if we had applied a sealer it would have given a finish that would have been easier to maintain.

Is it possible to apply a sealer now even though it has been grouted or is our only option to use a wax.

Your help is much appreciated. thank you.

You can seal it now. Look up at the top of this page and watch the add until you see stone tech and click on it. Then you can research what is best for your type of tile. Even search the net and read up on it before you buy anything. :tup1:

Hi Elmarie, Welcome! :)

Another suggestion would be to thoroughly clean the floor with Stone Tech's KlenzAll, and follow with Stone Tech's Heavy Duty Sealer (after the tile and grout is dry). Continue maintenance with their All Purpose Cleaner or Revitalizer. All of the products are available from our online store.
