A couple of my kitchen travatine tiles are developing small size recesses. Most of the recesses are pin head size, however there is one recess about 1/8" in diameter. This is not occuring in all of the tiles, just a couple. Is there a filler that I can use to infill these recesses? I did seal the the travatine after installation.

Joe,
I believe you could use some non-sanded thinset grout to fill in those little holes.
Cheers.

I'm thinking that Scott meant to say non-sanded grout. There is also a product known as traverfil. Tile store should know where to get it, or maybe even have some in stock.
However, if any of it will stick to an already sealed stone, I don't know --test what ever you want to use in an inconspicuous place.

My suggestion would be to go to a local stone dealer and purchase Akemi knife grade epoxy color buff and what ever colorant it takes to match existing fill in the travertine. A non sanded grout will work but the epoxy is more permanant and will resist stains, and yes it is easy to use.

I just do not understand why anyone would purchase travertine if they want a 'smooth as a baby's butt finish'. Travertine is like pecky cypress. Those craters and pock marks make and define the product.

I to always wondered why buy travertine then fill all the holes, well the holes will fill with dirt if not with grout ,but still why not smooth in first place.buying filled travertine is like brewing tea hot, then adding ice to make it cold.
I've installed alot of both and I fill the unfilled with grout. I'd hate to hafta keep the holes open. I've had one job that I have touched up 3 or 4 times because more holes appear. The stone just caves in leaving small holes 1/4 inch or less. :)
