How long before you should seal the grout

hey this is brandon again. i just finished my first tile project. Countertop and back splash . the grout is light so how long should i wait to seal it. and what is the best kind of sealer to use on a counter top.

What kind of sealer did you get for the other project? For counters, be sure the sealer is compatable to be used on food preparation surfaces. It'll tell you on the container how long the grout should dry. It'll probably say 2-3 days?

I've also combined the two threads on your previous water stain problem elsewhere. I'll move this one to the Sealing and Restoration forum for more exposure to the right people and delete the duplicate.

First question is gonna be what material have you used for the countertop and splash. Makes a lot of difference in the recommendation of sealers and such. Then I'll let the experts respond.

i used cermiac tile and mapei grout.

There are a lot of sealers, and a lot of opinions, Brandon, i like Aquamix,Stonetech,Miracle,myself,just look for an impregnating type sealer,and be sure to let it soak in and reapply as you go if it soaks all the way in, and be sure to wipe off the tile,and don't let it dry on the surface.We sell Stonetech sealers here, another good brand,at the TYW store above.

I sealed my grout twice using a 20 year product from Home Depot (in a green bottle I think by custom products - called Surface Guard Peneting Sealer). I finally used my shower last night and I noticed that after about 8 hours, the wall grout is back to its original color but most of the floor grout is still dark. is this normal?

Hi Deborah :)

It sounds like you could use more sealer. The pan receives the most amount of water. It's going to take a while for that grout to dry out before you can do another application.
