View Full Version : SLC...Newtonian or thixotropic?
Some new words I learned today. Flatfloor may already know these terms.
"Rheology is how a liquid flows. A liquid is Newtonian if it flows and levels even if moving very slowly. Other compounds may be thixotropic, that is they flow when brushed or troweled, but as they move more slowly they become static and stay where they are placed."

And ,if we were to be pouring an SLC job in a pastoral setting would it then be newtonian beucolic or beucolic newtonian :moon: :yeah:

bucolic: of or relating to shepherds or herdsmen.
OH-OH!!!:sheep:

Another valid question would be whether pancake syrup is a Newtonian liquid or a thixotropic liquid. :D

Depends on if it's real maple syrup or that stuff made from corn syrup and artificial flavors and colors. ;):yummy:;)
Then again, if the pancakes are too thick, you'll never know 'cause they soak up either kind of syrup so it never hits the plate. :D
But if the sheep eat all your pancakes...

Run out of work again JC???;)
Well I got another new word for that, centipoises (cps.) . Pancake syrup would be measured in centipoises... Water is low viscosity with a viscosity of 1 cps., pancake syrup is higher - 1000 cps., while honey may be 10,000 cps., depending on temperature of course.
Very useful information indeed, JC. Next time I pour me some ce-ment, I can say to my concrete contractor as follows:
"Frank, if I catch you adding water to that mix again so as to render it Newtonian, you're gonna find the check for your final draw has turned rather thixotropic."
I will, of course, take a picher of his expression so's y'all can see what a real Texan looks like. :D

I think my brain is about 5,000 cps right now...
a mind is a terrible thing to lose :)

NO, NO!!!!
maybe I'm just in a state of pseudothixotropia?

That's it .... I'm taking mutton off my diet because of being too budtonian. Aren't centipoises those worms with all the legs? Ya can't fool this Canadian.:p
