I just tiled a 200 sq. ft. kitchen. I used beige colored 1500 laticrete grout mixed with 1776 additive. I sealed with two coats of Aqua Mix Sealers Choice Gold (applied with a small brush). When I place water on the grout, it beads up but it also leaves a wet spot on the grout for a short time after it is wiped up. Does this mean the grout is not sealed yet or is it normal for liquid to levae a wet spot even after sealing? I had read the two coats of Sealer's CHoice was enough - should I do another coat? Thanks - Dan

Hi Dan,
You are fine. With the additive AND the sealer you shouldn't have a worry about staining. When you say "wet spot" do you mean a spot that's slightly darker? How long does it take to disappear?

Hi Shaughnn,
Yes, the spot is just darker for a short time and then is disappears once the water dries - maybe 10-20 minutes. I just wasn't sure if the grout should stay totally dry and not darken even for a short time since I thought the sealer would prevent any penetration of liquid into the grout. Obviously the water doesn't leave a stain once it dries but I was thinking ahead to when my kids spill grape juice and if it penetrates the grout even a little, it may stain. What do you think? Thanks for your help! - Dan

Hi Dan :)

You are experiencing what we call "surface wetting". This is normal. I suggest doing a TEST area of one additional application, and see if that helps.

If you're worried about grape juice spills, they need to be wiped up immediately, regardless.
