sealing installed recycled slate

I installed a recycled slate floor assuming I would seal afterward.
I beleive the slate is vermont.
It is a home office floor.
There is no visual evidence of previous sealings
Do I need to seal the floor?
Do I need to strip the old sealer?

Vermont slate is a very durable product. Without seeing it, it is difficult to tell what it needs.
