I am hoping that you can help. We recently purchased a 50 year old home with a slate foyer and hallway. The slate is very dirty, stained in some places, and even has some paint spilled on it.

I have not idea whether it is sealed or not - I just know that it looks dull, dirty and in need of some TLC.

What should my plan of attack be?

Thank You!

I would try some Klenzal, or something similar in an alkaline cleaner, and scrubbing brush, and maybe a wetvac.........http://www.stonetechstore.com/proddetail.asp?prod=KAR12%2D24S

Maybe use a paint remover made for either water or oil based paints. Then if it looks clean enough, decide if you want to use an enhancing sealer, or impregnating one. :tup2:

Hi Wm, Welcome! :)

Could you post a picture, and a first name? :shades:

Some older coatings can be very difficult to remove by a DIY'er, and best be done by a proffessional.
