Hi new to the forum. I have been searching the forum and there are many threads on this topic with slightly varied info but I wanted specific info.

I have newly installed California Sunrise slab countertops. It has been stained with oil / turkey grease type stuff. It is obvious I think that it has not been sealed. Need to do two things:

1- get the stains out and would like specific info about my stone and stain removal

2- the proper sealant for it.

I have been reading various info on stones and am wondering if this is truly a "granite" or something else.

Thanks much for reading and responding.

Hi Lena, Welcome!

You could start with a poultice with acetone and a white (no print) paper towel, and cover with plastic.

I jumped the gun and used advice from reading other threads. I used a slurry of 30% hydrogen peroxide and baking soda. Many of the stains lightened up. But, that same slurry mix was used after being exposed to the air after 12 hours and was applied in what my parents thought was another stain and the stain appears to have spread in the same shape as the slurry mix. More of the slurry was applied and again the stain seemed to spread. Anyone have advice for this one?

Hi Lena :)

You need to stop applying the poultice and let it dry out. ;)
