Best Thanksgiving I ever had was just Bobby and myself at Table Rock State Park in SC. We grilled a steak and potatoes and had a nice bottle of wine. I remember lots of turkey days in my life but that is my favorite.

Sounds like a line outa that Janis Joplin song, "Me and Bobby McGhee".

Worst Thanksgiving I had was with my conservative Christian (then) girlfriend who explained to me (a Hindu) that since the holiday is about giving thanks to God, and since there's only one god - a Christian god - I was actually blaspheming the holiday by celebrating it. I replied that my god was probably already pissed at me for eating turkey, so what's a little more blasphemy gonna do to me?

Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose.

A Thanksgiving I'll never forget.

Circa 1975. Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Spartan living conditions and a steady diet of boiled mutton, cabbage and spuds was the norm. for the 40 or so of us plying our trades. I had befriended the cook in the compound :yeah: , a wonderful guy from Somalia, named Kamaran who spoke English and had cooked on ships for years traveling the world. Long story short..... on Thanksgiving that year I was presented with a lovely bird (chicken), cranberry sauce and roasted sweet potato's. Garlic bread too! I don't think he ever got a bigger HUG in his life.. lol
To show my appreciation I went into Riyadh the next weekend a bought him a complete Nike workout outfit. He wore the outfit everyday. So....... I said thanks by giving as he did.

As a side note, I stayed in touch with Kamaran until his passing in 1990.

A true gentleman who loved life.

Several years ago right around Thanksgiving I was doing some "rearranging" in the kitchen. While in the process I put salt in a small container that had sugar in it (that's 'cause it was a sugar container).
I'd been watching the Food Network and thought it was cool how they'd grab a pinch of salt, pepper ect. and toss it in as they seasoned whatever it was they were cooking. I was gonna' be like Emeril. :turkey: Only thing is, I forgot to tell my wife about the change. :shades:
I'm sitting around on the big day watching ball games, drinking beer and what not and walked into the kitchen and saw that the little container was EMPTY! I thought to myself, "stay cool, see what she's cooking and all ready has prepared at this point". PIES! THAT'S ALL I COULD SEE WAS PIES. I'M THINKING GOD, DON'T LET HER HAVE PUT SALT IN THOSE PIES---PLEASE  Did I mention that I had forgotten to tell her about my little change? I said "Honey, what did you put what was in this container in"? She said,"I put it in one of the pies, why"? She was pissed!!! No,no,no. I mean PIIISSSSEEEEDDD :bonk: !!!
Thing is, she was excited about one of the pies because it was one she'd never made before and was looking forward to how it would turn out (another side note:Thanksgiving is her self declared "one day of the year that I really look forward to cooking" days). That pie was a chocolate pecan pie and the other was a lemmon meringue (my favorite). Guess which one got the salt---good guess, :clap1:
Anyway that was one day that couldn't end fast enough. Believe me, it didn't :shake:

p.s. To quote my bride after she somewhat calmed down: "You better hope like hell that lemmon pie got the salt"!
