I know that one of the main reasons big box stores can offer lower prices is because they sometimes pass along, lets say "less than top quality" products (drills with plastic innards, etc.).
Is there such a thing as ditra not up to Schluters standards(maybe a mistake in the manufacturing process) but still acceptable by HD standards as the local Evil Orange does sell ditra? :noid:
Or is ditra, ditra and and Herr Schluter wouldn't let it out the door if it didn't come up to a certain level?
Never heard of Ditra what ain't Ditra, Dan. Most Homers don't even have the stuff in stock and only special order it, so it's gonna come from the same place the real tile stores get theirs.
Call Schluter and axe'em. :shades:

Dan,
My bet is that the Evil Orange is buying so much of our beloved Ditra that Herr Schluter is willing to slash most of the profit margin. 7% of 10,000 sq. ft. and .7% of 1,000,000 sq. ft. look about the same to the bean counters. :)

At least in my area, Home Despot is stocking the 5 square meter rolls of Ditra. Usually it's in one of those "wingstack" displays that block the aisles. It's $1.29 per square foot, or $69.66 per roll, which is exactly the same as the retail price of a local supplier (Avalon Tile).
I still want to know what HD genius decided to stock Ditra, but not a decent dryset. (All they stock is CustomBlend.) I keep recommending that people trek over to Lowe'st to get either Laticrete 317 or Mapei Kerabond.

I'd be willing to bet that the Ditra arrives in the store in pristine condition. Would the Homers be willing to leave a pallet of bricks on top of a roll of it for a few days and then sell it? Yes. I'd guess that's what Dan has noticed.

To my knowledge all Ditra sold in this country is manufactured in Montreal at the same plant. In the past when there has been a problem with Ditra or any other Schluter product they have replaced it free of charge with new product regardless of where or from whom it was purchased. Schluter and companies like it have no incentive to produce inferior products. :)
At $1.29 for less than a full roll the Home Depot price is a bargain. :)
