Am new to the JB forum. I hope this is the right way to ask for advice. I couldn't figure out how else to do it.

Big slate/grout disaster. I think. Oh please please please let me be wrong. Grout got on the edges of the slate tiles during grouting. Not uncommon, I'm sure. But apparently, I was totally wrong in assuming that cleaning up would be no big deal!!! My naive remedies thus far (soap/water, Goof Off) have made the most minimal difference. Is there some magical invention that will help me get the grout off? Am I doomed to starting over?

Furthermore, one wall of the tile has already been sealed OVER some of the messy tiles. I know, I know! But it is what it is and I must still deal with it.

Oh so so so sad!!!

Hi there.

I'm going to create a separate thread for your post then move it over to the Cleaning and Restoration side of the house. In the meantime, what should we be calling you?

How long ago was the slate grouted and what brand of sealer did you use? Anyway you could post some pictures?

:)

Hi olgaolga, Welcome! :)

As Mike referred, first names are good! :shades:

I second the motion for the need of pictures. Without seeing your project, it's impossible to even suggest what might be needed to correct it (if possible).

O-O, what they wanna know is how bad is it.

Is it, for example, chock full of half inch clumps of grout? Or a slight thin coating of haze from grout?

Pictures help us see for ourownselves.

Often, if it is not too much, you can chip away at excess grout. And the slate does permit acidic cleaners to be used, usually. Acidic cleaners disssove grout haze. But they aren't strong enough to remove half inch clumps....
