View Full Version : Veteran's Day
Tomorrow let's not forget all of the men and women who have and are now serving in the armed services. Those who have made the ultimate sacrafice in this service and their families.
This Vet. only worked 3 hours today. I have turned the phone off. :yeah:

On the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month.
Wouldn't it be nice if this could become a universal rule?
Perversely I am remembering my great uncle Jack, who came back from WWII so damaged that he murdered his sweetheart then turned the gun on himself.
The war to end all wars, Jeremy? Not while humans are in charge of the planet, methinks.
All the consequences should be clearly considered before entering into such conflicts, but seldom are. We seem only to count the dead when we are tallying up to see who "won," without regard to the more universal injuries even to the victors. I think perhaps the only people who are not psychologically damaged to some degree by direct contact with war are those who were damaged before they went.
But, like the poor, wars will always be with us. And someone will always be willing to fight them on either side. So, of all the "holidays" we declare, Veterans' Day will likely be the most enduring, by whatever name called and whatever date celebrated. Armistice Day, by comparison, lasted but a scant few years, eh?

My dad served in WWII on a sub. When I asked him what he disliked most about getting older, he replied, "I'm too decrepid now to attend my submarine vet convention. I really miss seeing my friends who are still alive." He had not missed one until this last year.
He turned 87 this year. :usflag: That's for you Dad!

Thanks to all of them. Sadly more are joining their ranks.

Sadly, Jim?
Veterans day is not only about those who died but about all who served and serve and will serve. It's about casualties and survivors. Those are products of war. So is peace, prosperity and national idendity. It seems strange that peace is the offspring of war. You stare at them both and declare, 'You sure don't look alike!"...
Sadly doesn't do it for me but neither does gladly.
Thankfully will do it for me.
