Just looking for some advice with regard to cleaning Chinese slate. I got the slate layed a year ago and I think that it wasnt sealed before it was grouted. As a result the floor always looks dirty. It was a solvent based sealant that was used. Can anyone give some advice? (would save me a lot of headaches from wife) :bang:

A pic would help us, but the easiet remedy might be to try an enhancing sealer, to blend it in after a cleaning with a stone cleaner and brush. Also some stone cleaners leave a nice sheen on the surface, like Butchers brand.

Brian,

Can you clarify...
Tile was installed,
Then grouted, but not cleaned 100%,
Then the tile/hazy grout mess was sealed over with a solvent based sealer?

Is this right?

Thanks for your replies and just to clarify
1- Tile was layed and not properly cleaned when it was layed or
2- When sealing the tile the grout smugged the tile causing a haze on the tile

I would imagine that I might have to remove the sealant but think that this might be a messy job. Can I avoid this.
Davestone: whats an enhanced sealer? The finish doesnt have to be 100% but would like to get the dirty look off the tile so that might be the answer.
