I'm working in a house this week for the owner of one of the largest plumbing contractors in Ontario. It's a beautiful house with fancy wood-work and all the trimmings.
So I figure that because this guy is the head honcho for a plumbing company and his people are doing his work for him, that I would walk into one of the best prepared showers I've ever seen. Yeah right! You guys wouldn't believe how poorly the job was done.
I'm going to send in a couple of pictures in a few days and you can use it to show all the things NOT to do when building a shower.
;)

Yes I would!;)

C'mon, Harry, around here plumbers are the biggest culprits. ;) There are a few good ones I've run into, but most don't have a clue about showers. Would really like to see the pictures.

I keep tellin ya around here we start by tearing out plumbers pans (they dont even do em anymore cause they know that we will and they wont get paid .Best progress weve had in the last 10 years :) Now, if i could get the dang carpenters to notch studs before framing or use decent lumber when framing at least.most other holdups would dissapear.I did a morble shower last winter,1 2x4 was bowed out 1 1/4 inches in the middle. When i removed all to get to it(the backside had already been t&G'd) I found that when the carpenters were putting up the Tongue &groove they had cut the nails where the T&G got pulled in to the stud. Now rather than replacing it then and there, they continued to finish the wall and left it.
The Extra.............135.00 CHA CHING
I just hope somebody got royally chewed out.Normally i wouldnt have charged that much but after seeing they cut the nails and knew it was there Knowing full well this was to be a marble shower, well,i just got a bit peeved :)

When I first looked at the shower it looked like they had added the curb AFTER the liner was already installed. See how the liner is pulled back and not quite up under the DenShield? The DenShield was all the way down to the liner plus the wall to the left was very flexible. Too much wrong with this so I tore it apart.

Thought I could salvage the liner but it was too small to wrap the curb and didn't go far enough up the wall. The drain was a joke.
A Silicone gooped between the liner and top clamp of the drain clogging the "weep holes".
B Hey ... isn't there supposed to be a hole here?
C The liner material wasn't notched out for the weep holes.

I wasn't too surprised to see the workmanship after the backerboard was removed.
Any room for improvement? :bang:

So after I made the carpenter add some support in the walls I did all my prep and here's what I ended up with.
Hey ... isn't that one of them JB curbs?? ;)

He sure did Dave ... I made an example out of this job and recorded the stages hoping to educate them a bit. But I'm not getting my hopes up that it'll change anything much in the way these guys do their work.
So, Harry, what's the problem in that picher? He had hot on the left, looks like. :D
