Building my house, I hired a couple guys (on the side) from a local flooring company. I am buying my own material. For the shower pan, he says get eight bags of 80# Quikrete with yellow bag/red line. This is the sand (topping) mix, which seems to be expensive compared to a normal 80# of Quikrete concrete ($15 / $3.50). Another guy tells me get one bag of Portland and six or seven bags of sand. The guy I hired says his way is more economical and both ways work.

Anyway, what are the best materials to use that I can get from Lowes or HD for the bed under the membrane and over the membrane?

thnx in advance!

"As far as mud goes, I buy a pre-mixed deck mud because it's a ton easier when you're just doing a pan. The mix should be in the neighborhood of 5 to 1, sand to portland."

I will go with that ratio and/or the pre-mixed deck mud.
