View Full Version : What time is it

I notice tonite that the time between me in Seattle and Houston is only one hour. Don't you fall back one hour and spring ahead another in Texas? We have an exchange student and she was surprised that we did it and then when no one could explain WHY. It's one of those hard things to explain like "what is SODO Mojo". "Explain to me Mr. Jerry about war. We don't have war in China." "I study American history Mr. Jerry, It is very short. Not a lot of dates to remember. Many presidents though" It has been refreshing having the young folks from another country around the house. My son's girl friend. just left to work for the Army in Garmisch, Germany.

I can really empathize Jerry!!:)
All we hear about today are the youngsters who are trouble-makers. There are so many kids around today that are real treasures. I love being around them, listening to them, offering guidance, and learning from them what they are willing to share.
There are a lot of good, young minds out there waiting to soak up what we can give them. I sure hope we're up to the task.:)

I think we will be up to the task if we can at least get the time zones right. :D
I reside in the Central Standard Time Zone. Jerry, you reside in the Pacific Standard Time Zone. Between the two is the Mountain Standard Time Zone.
We are all on Standard Time currently. How many hours?
In the spring we all go on Daylight Savings Time, except Arizona, which remains on Standard Time throughout the year.

I dislike keeping up with time, I keep having to write it down because it keeps changing.
as Tommy Chong once said:
"I'm not into time...Man"

:D:D I never heard that one, but I can imagine... :D
I'm thinkin' that Jerry's confusion about the time is on accounta it's constantly wrong on this here forum, about which thing I have commented oncet before. :(
For zample, right now it's 21:16 o'clock, Central Standard Time, which is what we're allegedly using racheere. Last post by Mr. Lane says he posted it at 21:48 o'clock, but he's inna same time zone. Which means he done posted so fast that he got some thirty minutes ahead of when he posted it! Or would that be behind?
And it's always like that.
Oh, yeah, it really is. ;)

cx, give this page a refresh, see if it's better.
Well, Dave, I didn't see your post in time to tell. But just now I was watchin' another thread and a fresh post indicated it was made just a couple minutes before I looked at it, rather than half an hour later, which I take as a good sign. :)
However, the post was made by Mr. Cline who don't live around here but lives instead in a far off land which I believe to be in another time zone. So....I don't know if that time is right or wrong on accounta I don't know if the times on the individual posts are s'pose to be converted to my time, or if they are in the poster's time.
What I'm tryin' to say is I'm still confused, which ain't nothin' new a-tall. :) I'll watch and pay attention and see if I can determine if it's fixed.
And thanks for paying attention to my humble complaint. Ain't never got no respect like that around here afore. :D

CX,
I'm almost due north of you as the owl flys. Not exactly sure where you are but try coming around to Heading 350. So we are in the same time zone. And my time here has also never (until now) agreed with the time on this board. I too complained to John one time but he said it didn't matter. He didn't say he didn't know how to fix it, he just said it didn't matter. Now I find out.......:)
Well nevermind the "until now" part, I just looked and I am still posting an hour ahead of when I am posting.:( I'm still in the same time zone though.
Oh, and so you are. :o
The time looks right to me on your last post, though.
I think JB actually tole me once to pay more attention to my own bidness about the time thingee on accounta he didn't really know how to fix it. Good thing he hired Dave, eh? :)

For anyone else who's times are goofy, here's what you have to do. Click on the "profile" icon at the top of this page and get to the page where you edit your settings. The second entry from the bottom looks like this:
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/misevich/timezone.jpg
Although the screen says the servers are on central, they're not. Just do this. If your times are ahead by 1 hour, subtract one from the number in this box (if it was 0, change it to -1). If your times show behind, add one hour. Now you ain't gotta do math like I do when I drive my wifes car. :)

OK let's see what happens it's almost 10:00 am...................................but my post time is almost 11:00 am.:(

Bud, your time offset still says 0. Change it to -1 and then refresh the page.
Bud Cline

I was in the process of doing that when I entered an invalid username (go figure) then to make matters worse my ISP dropped my connection all at the same time.
OK I've changed it to "1". Now what time am I posting?:)
Bud Cline
11-16-2002, 09:05 AM
All that took about seven minutes but nothing has changed:(????

OH-OH!!!
OK davem explain this to me. It does seem that my times are correct with the time I think it is here in my house which is an improvement but it also seems that all my previous times (noted with posts) have been changed(moved back) by one hour. How can that be?
FYI: When I deleted "0" and replaced it with "1" nothing changed. But, when I deleted "0" and replaced it with "23" my times shown here on the board where in phase with the Central Time Zone which is what it should be.:)
davem
11-16-2002, 09:12 AM
minus one Bud. ;) looks like this ----> -1
:D
With 23 in there, I think the date would be wrong, like tomorrow? Yes, when you fiddle with that setting it will affect all your previous posts, just like when you change your signature.
Oh, and when you changed it to 1, you probably needed to hit refresh or reload on your browser to update the page. It was showing you a page cached on your hard drive.

Now see that's why you are the Guru and I'm the grunt.:)
In my infinite wisdom I didn't think it would recognize a negative 1 (-1) so being the brain that I am I opted to use the 23 approach:(.
I did however "Refresh" without being told at the time and nothing changed, hell I thought maybe the "Refresh" caused that.
Never thought to check the date.:) So now let's see what day it is.
What day is it by the way?

OK.....so-o-o-o-owhat the hell is todays date? Isn't this the 16th?
Davem your post is also dated the 17th. HUH!!!!! :D

11-16-2002, 11:20 AM
OK Bud, I thought it was pretty clever to go to 23. :) I set you to "-1". Have you time travelled back to today? :D
Damn! Does that mean we lost ol' Bud?
Hey, Bud, hang around over there if you can until Monday, check the stock market closings and report back Sunday night. Not on the forum, to my email addy. Unlike DaveG, I'll split with ya fifty/fifty, eh? :D
Just wanna see what time my post thinks it is here.
Bingo!
My time is right on, Dave. I looked at my profile and I'm set at -1, but you can bet I ain't never known how to do that. You reset everybody, you sweet thang? :)

Dave,
When you said that I realized our servers are in the Eastern Time Zone. Should we change OUR setting accordingly?
Still don't see what difference it makes, and I think I said I didn't know how to fix it. It wasn't high on my list. I'll put it that way. :D

I don't think the provider would like it if I tried to change their time. ;) I'll check to see if there are any settings in VBulletin. Mayhap we can just change that message in the profile section so it's right. I kind of like it Eastern myself!

OK so now it's the 16th again that's good I guess.:) Davem if your so smart how about you now take your talents over to my checking account and see if you can help me out with that new Lionciln I'm wanting to buy. I'd like to pay cash you see, but I just can't seem to swing it today.
Any help would be appreciated, oh and hey....put a little in there for that European vacation my wife and I dream of too will ya?:D

East coast here. It is now 11:37 according to the time given on the board. It is 10:53 EDST. I have 1 hour in my profile but it never matched up. I just made it +1 lets see what happens.
Ok it said I posted at 11:54, nothing matches.
Don't sweat the small stuff. :)
davem
11-18-2002, 09:34 AM
Jim, could you try +2 and report back? I'm curious. :)

Ok Dave changed to +2. BTW when I went to change it the + sign had dissappeared. It is now 12:12 EDST

At 0 my time and the board match. Let's see what time it says I posted this.
Hey, your an engineer your supposed to sweat the small stuff that's why John pays you more than me. :D

OK, I think we have a handle on this, please look below to your time zone, and find the proper setting for the time offset in your profile:
Eastern, 0
Central, -1
Mountain, -2
Pacific, -3
Anybody else, just tinker with it until it works. :D
Thanks Dave.
Sorry I didn't see this sooner. I'd have told you that's how to do it!
I fingered that timer out a long time ago. Used the Scientology method. Kept changing it till it worked!

I'm not messin' with it. It's close enough. ;)
davem
11-18-2002, 04:49 PM
John T, why'd you have to change anything? You and me is right smack in the middle of 0, which is the default. :D
shortly after I happened to find this humble posting spot. I noticed that if I put in a 1 like the instructions said that the times were off. So, I changed it until it was right. It's been 0 for a long time and my times are right. Wasn't a big deal.
Bud Cline
11-18-2002, 09:57 PM
Well don't use a 23 unless you want to enter into a time warp.:) If you do this today becomes tomorrow and yesterday is now, unless of course your left handed then.....
oh well nevermind...it had something to do with a north paw but...nevermind.
Hey Sonnie thanks for the cigarettes, got 'em today.:D

Does the international date line run thru Nebraska? ;)
Sonnie Layne
11-19-2002, 08:15 AM
Greenwich, NE, yeah.
Hobbit
11-19-2002, 02:34 PM
I just know that you know better than that..........;)
The International Date Line is nowhere near Nebraska, and its also nowhere near Greenwich (either in Nebraska or England). This because the IDL is out in the Pacific.
Now on the other hand, the Prime Meridian runs through Greenwich (or very close).;)
I know that's what you meant to say.:)
:):)
Sonnie Layne
11-19-2002, 02:43 PM
you're so right to correct me... I was corn-fused ;)
now that you bring it to my attention, I remember seeing the IDL when I was flying to Australia a couple years back. Y'know it's really cool to see where the IDL and the equator cross each other, I think they call it the bermuda triangle don't they??? :D
