View Full Version : Hypothetical question
My brother is renovating a 3 family. He hired a plumber, paid him about 4 thousand to do the work. The plumber pulled permits on 2 of the apartments but not the third. Sad to say, but some scumbags murdered the plumber shortly thereafter. My brother went ahead and did the work on ALL the apartments ( no permit for the third ). His work exceeds the quality of most plumbers in the area. I say he's up the creek. What do you think?

If Colorado is like a lot of other states, you need a plumber on the job to get an inspection. The premit problem can be handled by giving the building authority the money now. They don't really care. They want the money and the opportunity to inspect the work.
I would pay a licensed plumber a fee to first of all inspect the work himself and then call for the inspection and be there when the inspector arrives.
It can be handled. There's always a way. :)

Ditto, you can probably find a plumber who will stand behind your work, or beside it. I do some work that way, but I have to do the work precisely the way the plumber says 'cause the inspectors know him and his work. Yes, you can get the permit after work has begun, in all likelihood. In Dallas we don't get a pre-inspection on plumbing, just a rough-in and then a final.
Same in the "big" cities aroound here in Mo, (which is why I like working in non-incorporated areas of the county), you can do the work, but you gotta have a plumber on hand when the inspector shows up. Pain in the ass, but whatcha gonna do?!
