Removing Pet Odors From Saltillo Tile

Hi Tile Fans

Have about 1,800 sf of Saltillo tile in home purchased one year ago. It was explained that the Saltillo tile was to be sealed yearly and had been sealed in June 2005. We would like to clean and reseal, but a . . . .

Problem

Pet stains from new pup. These obviously were cleaned up when spotted, but a urine odor seems to have been retained within the tile itself. We have washed with soap and water. We have puddled vinegar in the areas thinking it would percolate into the tile and neutralize odor. Some luck, but not good enough. All suggestions - - products, techniques, etc. appreciated.

Any pictures? Do the tiles have a topical coating on them? Or is it a penetrating sealer? Any idea what product was used in June 05 to seal the floor?

Have you tried the odor stuff they have at the pet store?

Thanks JTG and Stonebuddy. The sealer or 'finish" as the container states, that was left for us by the previous home owner is by Aqua Mix. The full title is "Saltillo Tile Finish - Protective Gloss". The container states it is a tough acrylic coating.

Regarding whether we have tried some special cleaners, wife Mardi says she tried something called "Nature's Miracle" - - sprayed it on and let it sit. Odor persisted.

JTG - am going to return now to the site you noted for a more detailed read. I didn't see any mention of tile related odor, but will check more.
