I recently installed a glass shower door and noticed that after only a few weeks of use it has started to get some marks that look like water spots and do not come off with regular Windex-type glass cleaner.
I have since started using a squeegie on the doors after every shower to try to prevent this from getting worse, but have two questions:
1. Is there a way to protect the glass from the water stains? I have heard suggestions ranging from fabric softener to RainX.
2. Is there a way to remove the water stains, or are they permanent?
Thanks for your help!

Hi Molly,
Contact your installer for their prefered cleaning materials, can I assume that you have a harder water ?
Granted you can use the intense glass cleaners, however these can have a negetive effect upon adjacent materials, please be careful.

They can be permanent,if not cleaned off regularly, try this product to clean, and they also have a product that coats the glass,to prevent this..calgon also works...http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110009156277&ssPageName=MERC_VIC_RSCC_Pr12_PcY_BIN_Stores_IT

Could be the beginning of soap scum also.

Hi Molly :)
There is no sure fire way to stop this from happening. First it depends on the condition of your water. Routine drying with a squeegee will certainly help.
As previously mentioned, some of the issue could also be soap. One situation requires acidic cleaning, while the other requires an alkaline cleaning. We always recommend to TEST first. I have found if they are hard water spots that CLR works well. As Michael mentioned use caution with anything acidic. If you are working in a marble or limestone shower, the CLR could damage the surface of the stone.
If it is a soap buildup, then a tile and stone specific high alkaline cleaner will work well (such as Stone Techs KlenzAll).

Thanks for the tips! I do have a natrual stone shower (tumbled travertine) so I will try some of your suggestions very carefully!
