Dear all, I am going to be using travertine inside my newly built shower and I heard that it needs to be sealed before and after grout application. Can the travertine be sealed before it is applied to the wall? And if so, can we seal it stone by stone and where all does it need to be sealed (i.e. front, sides & back of the stone)?

Thanks,
Melissa

Oh Crikey don't seal the backl!!! You can preseal it before you set it on the wall. but you only want to do the front. Try not to get any on the sides either. Reason being is that the sealer will also act a bond breaker, so you definitely don't want it on the back where the mortar needs to bond and you don't want it on the sides where the grout will need to bond. Other than that you're good to go!

Any other questions, you know where to come!

Hallo
Travertine is a very dense stone & is not going to take much of a sealer. If your travertine is not polished you my consider color enhancer instead to bring out the natural look. What you do need to seal is grout.
Good Luck

I use Aqua-Mix exclusively any more. I apply it from a small pump bug sprayer, wait ten minutes, and remove the excess with a damp sponge, wiping in the same direction.

Water will bead up for about six months of two showers a day.

Is this stone fill or unfill?

honed and filled would be the only way it should be done, But i have seen too much to assume.
