Hey everyone. Have a safe and sane celebration of our country's birthday this weekend. :birthday: :aparty2: :aparty:
Are you going to be able to take off on Monday and get a long weekend out of it.
It is about 1:40 and the Tile Guy is going to go take a nap and start getting ready.
I and the lovely Patti J are going out for dinner tonite and dance lessons. Yes I know :clap2: Keeps us young and it is a lot of fun. When a guy can dance the lady's love it.
I am goint to coat the bathroom walls this weekend with this stuff. www.americanclay.com Have the primer on now and adding the color. Going to put on two coats different oats of color. I liked the idea of putting it on with a trowel vs a brush. :yeah:
Happy Forth of July

Flatfloor, I suspect the Caledon Standoff is somehow in reference to that very hazy history Canucks are always alluding to. ;)

chicks dig it and the 'Grim Reaper' hates it.
We're having a Fourth of July celebration in Josephine as we speak. I walked down there earlier with Berta Lea and was surprised at all the 'vendors', everything from satelite TV to home mortgages. I thought it was going to be a down home Volunteer Fire Department 'meet and greet' bbq thing but everybody wanted to sell me something or put war paint on my face. I sat down to talk to friends at a snow cone booth that the Methodist church was running. It was downwind from a Shetland pony ride. I don't know what the snowcones tasted like but I can tell you what they smelled like.

July in Josephine at the Methodist church is call out a hymn and we'll sing it.
This morning, Rob called out 'God Bless America'.
Everyone sang it to the best of their ability. It was actually quite moving.

God bless America.

Yeah, Harry. :)

As many of you know, my hobby is American History, specifically that of the Founding Period. I don't know a lot, but I can tell you there was uncertainty in the minds of the men who were at the forefront of politics in those days. It was not a sure thing by any stretch of the imagination that we could actually pull off a revolution against Great Britain, at the time the most powerful nation in the world.

Also at the backs of their minds were doubts that "Americans" could handle the idea of a republic should Britain be repelled. It hadn't been tried before in modern times, and it had never been tried at the level of citizen participation the Founders meant to bring about. It was a totally new idea in self-government, and I never hesitate to say that is has been a resounding success, and that it has not been duplicated anywere, not to this day. ;)

So yes, I love the Fourth of July. It marks a turning point in the birth of our nation. It is also, by the way, the date upon which two of our most prominent founders passed away. Thomas Jefferson and John Adams both died on the Fourth, Jefferson an hour or so before Adams, but Adams' last words were (mistakenly), "Jefferson lives." Jefferson is, of course, considered the author of the Declaration of Independence, which is dated on the Fourth of July, 1776. :)

Bravo J.B.!!! You know your history. It should also be mentioned that although we celebrate 4 July 1776 as the birth of our nation we didn't truly win the war and thus indepence, for several more years. 'nuf trivia for now.

Happy 4th everyone. I'm in the office today but will be off tomorrow.
