The year was 1987. What was the headline???
Think about it for a minute, then proceed on.......
How many of you remember this???.......
During the Reagan administration there was a little thing going on know as the Iran-Contra hearings. Recently came across a clip of an old news video showing Lt.Col. Oliver North testifying at the hearings. There was North in front of God and country getting the third degree. We all know it happened, but how many can remember part and parcel of what was said????
Questioning Senator: "Did you not recently spend close to $60,000 for a home security system?"
North replied, "Yes, I did, sir."
The senator continued, trying for a laugh out of the audience, "Isn't that just a little excessive?"
To which North replied, "No, sir."
Senator: "No? And why not?"
North: "Because the lives of my family and I were threatened, sir."
Senator: "Threatened? By whom?"
North: "By a terrorist, sir."
Senator: "Terrorist? What terrorist could possibly scare you that much?"
North: "His name is Usama bin Laden, sir."
At this point the senator tried to repeat the name, but couldn't pronounce it (most people back then probably couldn't). Several people in the audience laughed at his attempt. Then the senator continued..
Senator: "Why are you so afraid of this man?"
North: "Because, sir, he is the most evil person alive that I know of."
Senator: "And what do you recommend that we do about him?"
North: "Well, sir, if it was up to me, I would recommend that an assassin team be formed to eliminate him and his men from the face of the earth."
The senator, of course, disagreed with this approach.
.....End of clip.....
Regardless of your personal political bent........Its sort of chilling, isn't it? Fourteen years prior to the 9/11 disaster, Lt.Col. North was naming today's nemesis.
In case you don't remember.....the questioning senator......Democratic hopeful, Al Gore.
What is amazing about all of this, is that during the intervening 14 years, nothing was done about this threat. All in the name of being politically correct.
Think about it for a minute, then proceed on.......
