These spoof emails are very common regarding Ebay and Paypal both - never click on them or respond to them - they take you to an alternate site to get info from you. The only ones that could be legit is when they address you with your real name - not "dear Ebay user" or by your account name.
If you get one, the only safe thing to do is forward it to EBay or Paypals fraud unit. If it was legit they will contact you - if not you will get an email thanking you for reporting it.

I agree with what Eric says. Anytime you get anything from any business you have an account with addressed to customer, etc., don't open it. Go to the business web site using the legitimate URL that you type in or have bookmarked and check with their fraud section. I've been inundated with "ebay", "paypal", banks, etc. announcements. All have been fraudulent phishing attempts. Some really looked legitimate too.

Yeah Dave I have been id thefted. After I lost my finger I needed to update my concealed weapons permit. So I go the sherrifs office just a week after I got my stiches out. Well i give them the finger crad and get my prints done. Also while you are there they run your name for warrants and free gifts. Well the guy comes back asks me to step in this office I was like dude I just need my card back. Well when they ran my SS number it had 5 different names on it. 3 of the names were female last time I checked i didnnt have boobs. That is exactly what i told the detective. They didnt think it was funny. About an hour after being held up and crap i threated to sue the holy mosses out of the city. I had a DL a SS card and alot of other Id on me who I was. And they still were saying I wasnt who I am. Just pretty sad. Needless to say I found out my credit had gotten screwed over this. oh well life rolls on. trust me if the steal ur id its hard to become yourself again.

I work with criminal info and you would be shocked at how many people have their id hijacked. Most people think that id theft is just a problem related to their credit and finances. Not so. I encourage everyone to check not only their financial reports but also their criminal background.

If its an ebay mailing I dump it period.
All ebay correspondance is done through My ebay My messages.
Since they incorporated the messaging system into the My ebay feature, all official ebay correspondance will be sent to your messages box.
Paypal never sends any official notifications to my email in my experience.
I have recieved hard copy from thier accounts dept in the mail once.
Dump it all and if you did miss something that was official...........they will let you know and you can figure it out then.
Better safe then sorry.
There are some really genetically deficient souls out there that care for nothing more than being as disruptive to others lives as they can be.
A hacker was asked...................why do you create virus's
He answered..........Because I can!!
Classic example of the warped intelligence out there!!

I knew about the e-mail stuff, and to my knowledge never answered one, neither has my wife, but you never know.I can't even get pics through my e-mail,so's they can't identify my computer.I don't really know how it happened, but i think it involved my e-mail.
Heh. This is all pretty funny. About a month ago I received emails from ebay and netflix. I never really read them as I though they were phishing emails. I just got another one from netflix today, it's telling me my cc is expiring and I need to go update it. Well, they're right, so I guess you might look a little more closely at some of those emails! :smash:

The only ones that could be legit is when they address you with your real name - not "dear Ebay user" or by your account name.
I received a paypal email a few months back with my FULL NAME in it. Of course it was asking me to click a link to "update my information". I checked the properties of the link, and it would have sent me to a russian website.
I've been an Ebay member since '98 and paypal since around '99, and I've NEVER received a REAL email from either asking me to update info.
