I've heard a lot today about it being 6/6/06, but not much in the way of it being the anniversary of the storming of Omaha Beach.
Love the Frenchies!

I know I mentioned this somewhere on here before, but I stood on the bluff overlooking that beach in 1961 . . . right dead in the middle of the American National Cemetary that occupies that spot. It can get too you. :)

I actually visited Dieppe, where the Canucks went ashore. You don't hear a lot about that, but they took some serious casualties. :)

Did not make it to Sword or Utah. Only had three days and ran out of time. There is a Brit cemetary at St. Valerie between Omaha Beach and Caen. Stopped there briefly. There are also German cemetaries in the area.

It was another kind of anniversary for me, got married 25 years ago on June 6th. Wife and I went out last night for dinner and we'll be in NYC the last week in June to really celebrate!

Joe --

Why would you go to NYC? There are no significant national monuments or icons there.

I think that you should try Omaha instead.

 Omaha? Now that's just plain crazy! Sorry, New York it is. My wife wants to shop at Macy's. ;)

With out looking it up can anyone guess which country suffered the most casualties in the second world war? I think the answer will surprise many who have only heard history from one point of view.

I had to look it up but the answer didn't surprise me. I was surprised by the second highest entry though.

I heard that some Vegas odds makers were giving odds that 06/06/06 would be Armageddon...If they were right then who would be around to collect?
