I didn't think there would be any good "mountain" biking in FL either. Then I did some research and found there was an "Epic" course run earlier in the year. I attached my bike to our rental car, and off we went. The course was actually one of the most difficult rides I ever experienced.

As far as the snakes & gators - Why do you think I dumped the bike?

jjwq8
01-03-2004, 12:47 AM
OK
I'll bite.

So why you got a rental car but a non rental bike? Did you ride from Illinois to Fla just to rent a car?

doitright
01-03-2004, 02:36 AM
Actually I rented the car in IL as I didn't think my car would make it & wasn't as spacious and comfy as the caddy. Also stopped in TN & KY to bike while the wife went shopping. I saved it, she spent it.

While in FL, I did rent this fine machine! :yipee:

So where's the bike rack?:D

Hi to all - hope all is well...

BTW, this grandson is Dylan Jakob - he currently resides with me - not sure for how long, but it's a different experience second time around, for sure!

I was looking through the pics, putting names to faces so i thought i'd better put one of me, took it quickly this morning about to go out to work.
Rob Z you ever play any rugby? 6ft 5in 300lb's here, used to play 2nd row. JB were you in London a few weeks ago, because I got cut up by a guy who was your double.
You can see why my friends call me shrek.

John Bridge
08-20-2004, 05:59 AM
Well, it seems to me the least you could do is give us a little smile. Rob does that, and it takes a bit of the threat out of his size. :D

smee
08-20-2004, 09:39 AM
yes, JB's quite the cosmopolitan guy...he like to check up on members here and there - see how things are going - put you in line when you're out...even if you are 6'5" 300

he's John. John Bridge :)

Sorry it was 6.30am and i was facing a 1 1/2 hour drive across london traffic for a poxy repair job, but the day finished ok with a round off golf and a few beers with some friends.hence the smile, though i do think i look daft when i smile. and JB were you in London about 3 weeks ago???

That couldn't have been John in London. Seems he and the company plane got caught in a crosswind last month.

Some one in your family has, because this guy was a double, he had to be from the same gene pool.

John Bridge

Hell, you and I could be from the same gene pool. My father's family was run out of England at some point. :D

David Taylor of Tile-Experts was kind enough to send me a picture of Tom Hulse, Mike Ackley (Mike2) and himself. David visted the two moderators while he was on vacation a couple months ago. Since neither Hulse nor Ackley have sent in a pic of themselves, I figure I'll do the honors. :)

The pic was taken at Mike's house in La Conner, Washington (on a sunny day, too :D ).

It's a pleasure guys. :)

Didn't know there was sun in Washington State! :D

I was at my brothers wedding, just outside Portland. Beautiful country! Come to think of it, there was sun for the outdoor reception (at a vineyard/B&B). Thank God I didn't have to drive outa there that night! :loaded: :)

09-05-2004, 09:17 AM
Hi Jim :)

I was thinking the same thing, but according to JB's post, I would try left to right with Tom, Mike, and David.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. Sure wouldn't want to be wrong for misnaming somebody! :shake: :)

John Bridge
09-05-2004, 09:49 AM
That's it, Tom, Mike, David. :)

My sister, who lives in that same area, tells me to come in July. That's the best chance for nice weather, she says. The rest of the year, everybody stops and stares each time the sun pokes through the clouds. :D

I grew up there. Never noticed anything wrong with the weather. Figured it was supposed to be that way. It is God's Country, though. Beautiful.

cx
09-05-2004, 10:08 AM
Pleased to meet y'all. :)

Onliest time I've ever visited the fair state of Washington, the weather was absolutely beautiful the whole week, just like in that there picher. Was in August as I recall. Yep, some pretty country thereabouts.

David Taylor
09-05-2004, 10:37 AM
Actually, that's not Mike's house. I found out later that he rented it for the weekend to impress Tom and I. Complete with family pictures and everything. He even paid the neighbors to call him by his first name. I have no explanation for the boat we went on, other than he found the owner's keys somewhere. ;)

Just kidding, of course. That's his house on the canal alrighty. Both guys are even nicer in person than they are on the boards here. They seem a little shy of the adult beverages, though. :D

flatfloor
09-05-2004, 11:03 AM
well, he's a little leery of those adult beverages. This is his last house after the adult beverage party. :D

Mike2
09-05-2004, 12:09 PM
Actually thatís not David at all. Itís his twin brother Lester. David got arrested earlier that day driving 100 MPH through the Border Crossing dragging some idgit in a Honda. The Mounties chained him up in the Duty-Free Liquor Store parking lot, then stuck one foot inna bucket of wet fat mud while the drug dogs sniffed out the Ditra and Kerdi he had stuffed in the back-end. Lester left my place later that night with a cold chisel and sledgehammer to retrieve his brother, havenít heard from neither since. :D

David Taylor
09-05-2004, 12:48 PM
I thought Lester had you fooled, Mike. I was just trying to get John to the airport. Ya, that's it... the airport. ;)

Mike2
09-05-2004, 02:12 PM
:D

Remember that ride John? Wasn't smee along on that trip too?

John Bridge
09-05-2004, 02:49 PM
David drove Smee to the airport the day before I left. Never have asked her how the ride was. I'll just say it's a good thing you were driving when you took him for that boat ride. Don't let that guy anywhere near a steering wheel of any sort if you gonna ride with him. :D

David Taylor
09-05-2004, 03:49 PM
I conditioned... er... bought John a pint or two of courage (Stella Artois) at lunch before heading to the airport and still he remembers. Sheesh. :)

Smee has no permanent psychological damage from her ride - in fact, I hear she's headed to NZ later this month.

Wait a sec... maybe John has a point. :D

Mike2
09-05-2004, 04:39 PM

Beautiful dog. :) He looks like he's lacking for attention, though. :D

Thanks for the compliment. He is a wonderful dog!

Yeah, he really thinks he is abused. He still wants to be a lap dog so he will flop his front half on my lap and stand on his hind legs. Quite the sight!

Bill Vincent
09-23-2004, 11:58 AM
A good friend of mine has a 130 pound german shepard that thinks the same thing. But with her, it's not just the front half of her that ends up in your lap. :) And once she's in your lap, she'll roll over waiting for you to scratch her belly, and if you don't get right on it, she'll paw at you and flip your arm up with that big nose of hers till you do! :)

Bugman
09-23-2004, 12:58 PM
Oh YES!!! Been there, done that too. At least Bailey doesn't roll on his belly when he gets on the couch with us. He does the old root hog nose trick and really knows how to paw you too.

He loves to have his neck scratched. Sometimes he will sit there and lean his head back so far I swear I could tip him over backwards.

ditto to all of the above ..............times 7, it woulld probably be times 8 but the devine M won't let the Kookie Monster in the house. Then he did redeem himself while we were away by taking a serious dislike to our Maid, who now has a toothy tattoo on her forearm for her trouble. We are assured that it was she who was giving him grief. One more and I will have to seriously consider having her put to sleep.

John, actually I do have a couple of pics I will post (or try to), but I was talking to a couple of guys on the voice server the other night and they were saying how great it was to put a voice to the name, and would'nt it also be cool to put a face along with it, and I think Opie said there was this thread with the pictures but he couldn't remember the name of it, so I bumped it up for them. Whew. What a long sentence.

Speaking of Carharts...I can't work without mine! One pair last me about 9 months, so about 10 bucks a month on coveralls. They have a pocket for every tool I own almost. I carry my nippers, olfa knife in the sides...pen, steadlter pencil and felt in the bib as well as my calculater, razor scraper and cel phone in the other bib pocket. Pointer goes in the back pocket..along with about 10 lbs of old crusty thinset...need to put the vacuum hose in there every week or so ;) Then I can almost fit my Wet saw in the other pocket! *whew*

OK, y'all, here's a picher of three generations of Stephens tile setters, two sure-nuff mud men and one not quite yet mud man. Onna left is Troy, then "Little" Davy, then regular Davy onna right.

I did not, of course, refer to Little Davy as Little Davy whilst in his presence on accounta it appeared the boy could bench press a VW bus on a good day - either end. :D

You want you some serious tile work done, it don't get no better than this. :)

I cropped the picher a little. The table next to Davy is has an identical Target saw set up on it. Likely for tile races at lunch time, or some such. And in the back of Davy's truck was another blue saw, bigger than these. Sorry, Todd, didn't see nary yellow tool on site.

cx
04-04-2005, 05:00 PM
After we all visited for a while, it became apparent to the older members of the group that Davy required a bit of 'splainin' on some of the finer points of usin' the tile saw. But I axe you, does it look like he's payin' the least bit of attention? :D

cx

Naw, John, they was only runnin' two, one was inna truck, still. Actually, they was only runnin' one. That's the one Troy was usin' to cut all them slates for a shower (oh, yeah, we discussed that. :) ). In fact, Troy was the onliest one I seen to hit a lick the whole time. :D

No, Raymond, I'd never met Davy nor either of the other generations. It was, in fact, just an "Ill be passin' through" thing.

Davy
04-05-2005, 07:02 PM
Todd, you got it, he played Defensive Tackle, not a bad player either. :)

That little Milwaukee Hole Shooter has been mixing thinset for nearly ten years, it's alla guy needs. Anything bigger wants to tip over the bucket of water.

Dad is a hard worker, I'd have a hard time keeping up with him if it wasn't for the 4 hip surgeries he has had. One of them still gives him trouble.

We did talk about receding hair lines too, we all three agreed there wasn't room for both hair and brains up there. :) Jr. didn't have anything to say about that. :)

The big Target stayed on the truck, it's for my weekend job, 24x24 Limestone.

Shaughn,
Seeing pic's of your little girl remind me of when mine was that age. Now she's 16 and driving and she's a man-killer (good looking, not driving wise). She can also run a table saw, chop saw, jig saw, mix thinset, set tile, and grout. Pretty much everything we've learned together. She designs the projects and then we build them. Not bad for a "girly" girl.

One proud dad!

Rob you need to teach them how to mix grout in that pumpkin. That would be funny

As John said....seems like last week you posted his first pictures.

Can Jana still sing the Mets song?

Little girls being silly are a treasure. :)

So would you call it a military family, Laurie? :) A wholesome looking group for sure.

My son Matt has joined the army on the delayed enlistment program. He'll be leaving the first of June after completing his freshman year of college.

John,

I'd call it a family well-scattered, for sure. It has taken several years to assemble everyone for a picture, thanks in large part to military schedule conflicts. It also makes for lively interactions and friendly disagreements when they all do get together.

My prayers (and best wishes) to your son and all of you. It is certainly an honorable thing to do, but QUITE nerve-racking for all nowadays - especially family and friends left behind.

Sorry Jack, I can't picture you without the crayons. :D

Looks like good mud, although you're holding it in the wrong hand. :tup2:

Davy, look at his hawk. Looks almost new, doesn't it? He needs to take it out and run over it with the truck a couple times. :D
