Anyone picked up on this bit of collateral damage? 20 Marines apparently face the death sentence if it is proven that they knowingly participated in the deaths of innocents in Iraq. The "massacre" occurred after a patrol came under fire from insurgents. I did not hear whether the patrol took casualties or not.
I got wind of this today. It may be old news.

Jermey I dont know. All I know is this. I think if they are in war and getting fired upon all is fair. I am not saying free killing is rite. but sometimes we never here the rest of the story. I would give up everything today to pick up a rifle and head to war in a heart beat. The way other countries treat us is just plain damn wrong. Esp seeing as how we blew them up then rebuild the damn thing.

The story was out on the AP yesterday and made the front page of the local paper. The story sure made it sound like they weren't under fire, but let's wait until all the facts are in to pass judgement.

Unfortunately in war bad things happen. Let's get the whole story before we help the enemy condemn us.
Since man first invented war this type of "incident" occurs. My wife had an uncle in WWII who helped liberate a German concentration camp, might have been Dachau. They immediately went into the nearest town and killed every inhabitant they could find.
In wars such as Iraq and Vietnam our troops do not know who the enemy is. Something triggered the response if it indeed occurred.

Yep the incident probably did happen. Probably not the only one either.
Jim is right in that this sort of thing happens all the time in war. Mai lai wasn't the only "massacre" in vietnam. Just the only one that became public enough that a few scapegoats had to go down, and this will probably play out the same.
Take young, emotionally inmature, men, teach them the art of killing, arm them to the teeth, put them into a situation where they see and do things on a daily basis that no human being should ever have to see or do, pump up their adrenaline levels with the smell of fear, and bingo--another massacre. What other result can one expect???
The fact that we are now in the 21st century and still acting like we were in the 21st century BC demonstrates how little progress humanity has actually made. How one can claim to be a civilized society and still act with agression towards ones neighbors is beyond me, and in my opinion does not bode well for the future of the species.

I'm moving to Canada if it takes 4 or 5 or 50 investigations (like with the Pat Tillman incident) to get to the bottom of this.
It'll be tragic if the things alleged turn out to be true; but if we can't have an untainted process that gets the truth out, it will be unacceptable.

What the COMMON at home American does not understand is 1)They have a different conception of war than we do. Everybody participates - men , women and children - they are indoctrinated from a very young age that we are infidel pigs. Scourge of the earth, the great whore. 2)They are not a christian based religion and I wish I were christian enough to forgive them. I guess that I place as much blame on myself and the people I've elected to represent me than I do them but in the meantime....................................

Darn tree huggers, my left bottom buttock. No way should these guys face the death penalty like the first post mentions, but in these people's minds, we have 2 strikes against us already. Killin' 'em all letting God sort it out works fine when you're stopping a tyrant like Hitler.
Trying to persuade people to be nice to each other and embrace democracy at the point of a gun is lunacy, and incidents like this one will only make it next to impossible.
We've entered the twilight zone: as bad as Nam and all the swift boaters would rather lose their left nut than pull out "before the job is done."
Goodbye blood and treasure.
Another massacre: yahoo massacre in Iraq and click on the War and Piece link.

Lots of hate going on here with very little substance. This is a free country, and we at the forums believe in free speech. We also believe in responsible speech. We don't go along with demonizing any group because of the actions of a few individuals. So unless you have some facts to report, let's just drop it. :)
