I just had absolute black tile installed on my jacuzzi tub platform and I've got an absolute black vanity top being fabricated now. The grout for the tile is just about finished. The end of the jacuzzi tub also serves as a seat for the shower with a single 36" piece for the seat. I've spent some time reading the forum and I'm confused. The granite is polished, to seal or not to seal and with what? Test then seal or not to seal?

In genereal, a legitimate black absolute doesn't need a sealer, but the grout could use one, to keep it from turning colors. Here's a good site for info...http://www.stonetechpro.com/stonecare/idx/10/0/Stone-Care-Essentials.html?

How do I test it.... by putting a drop of oil, vinegar and lemon juice on it and leaving it on for a while, if it dosen't absorb, don't seal? If it absorbs seal?

What about all those fabulous products my wife uses on her hair, will it hurt the seat? How about her hair iron (it just sound wierd even saying it) can the heat hurt the granite on the vanity top I have coming?

The oil test, and the acid test are really two different tests, both involving some repair,if the stone absorbs either..if it absorbs the citric acid, etching the surface, that spot will need to be repolished..if it absorbs the oil,by turning and staying dark..you may have to use a poultice to get it out.Heat will not harm your granite.Does plain water darken the stone?I wouldn't think so.
