Mineral oil in my Carrera

Hey Guys,

We installed a soapstone counter and marble backsplash about two months ago. The last thing I did was have the architect and builder inspect the job before I left.. They asked me to oil the soapstone, which I did. I left them with the advice to let the mineral oil set awhile and then mop up any that had not penetraed . No one ever did...... :shake: and I get the call today saying that the oil has wicked up into the Carerra backsplash.
I haven't looked at it yet, but I'm assuming the worst. Any ideas on how to draw out the oil in the backspash? Also what's your opinions' on liability. We are almost never adverserial with clients but if I'm not responsible I do like to get paid.

Hi Trask. I played around with mineral oil on limestone to see what effect it might have. Both sealed, and color enhanced, but within a short period of time, the dark had faded back to the natural unsealed color. I think it is the nature of mineral oil to evaporate on it's own if given the chance. Now if the marble has also been sealed giving the mineral oil no way out. --I don't know what will happen.

Hey Trask - was the marble a tile backsplash or slab material?

It's 3/8" tiles. And yep it's sealed..twice. It got in at the counter- backsplash interface, So I don't know how to get it out. will a poultice like diatam. earth pull oil through a sealer?

Maybe try to strip the sealer off the marble and let the oil evaporate as JVC suggested.
