Hi I belive I have entered the world of Marble Mess

I have laid my share of tile and a few jobs were marble..This time I messed it up royaly HELP/
I just laid about 250 sq. or so of light travertine marble on an unlevel 2nd floor using a full flex latex modified thin set..I had to float each piece to make them level and in doing so squished some thin set to the top of each piece getting it on the surface...even though I sponged it off - a film was left in some spots...I must have been a bit too sloppy in moving around on the surface because now I have some scratches in the floor also.. I was told to use some OOOO grit steel wool to remove the thin set film...Now I have more scratches...Gee do you think I messed this job up...yep I was paid to make this marble mess..I Must repair my misfortunes - please Help...is there a compound or series of steps I can take to remedy this or should I just move out of state and cut my loses???

Jonathan
Welcome to the site. Wish it could have been with better news.
I have been in the same boat tne ended up having to get someone who has the equipment to come in and put their machine and magic pooky on the floor and refinish it.
Hope you used unsanded grout because if you didn't this process might not work.
Let us know where in the country you are at and folks here might be able to direct you to a resource.
Good luck

Any help is apreciated.

You didn't say if it was polished or honed. If honed you may be able to rehone it yourself, and rescue this..if it's just a couple pieces of scratched polished, you could replace them..if it's all polished, and scratched, depending on how deep,it could cost you as much as you charged.Don't leave it and run, that's what everybody else does. :yeah: Maybe you could work a deal with a refinisher, maybe give him some jobs, or take care of some punch out,or problem customer for them.

Hi Jonathon, Welcome! :)

Go here (http://www.ntc-stone.com/cont.htm#FL) and start dialing some numbers. Get a few estimates and solution alternatives. Look for the guys who have a (R) for Restoration after their name.

Hopefully someone will be able to do a light polish without having to grind and polish the floor. Being a fellow contractor, hopefully they might cut you some slack. Either way, we're all running a business, and need to make money. Your customer will appreciate the fact that you're willing and able to resolve the issue.

Keep us posted how it turns out.

Thank you all for your help.
I am not a turn and run kind of guy..I will even give up my profit and eat the time it took to lay this mess in place just to get a happy customer and a nice looking floor. I will post the results. I've been in contact with one restorer and it seems I will be spending a bit of money on this one..I'll let you know
