View Full Version : Frothy Sealer's Choice?
Hey, I've used a lot of different sealers in my time but I've never used one that works up a froth. I'm using a sponge brush to apply it and after doing a a few feet of grout line, my brush is so full of foam that I have to squeeze it out. Enough foam comes out to spread over a few more feet of grout. This stuff is like a beer, it develops a "head" in my cup. I'm not agitating it or shaking it up. Is this normal?

I've seen this happen, and i think it's a chemical reaction with the sponge material, myself. It's not good if the bubbles remain, and look bad, that's fer sure.
That sounds very reasonable Dave. Must be it. When I first start, things go okay for the first few tiles but by the time I finish a while later, I can squeeze beaucoup foam outta the brush after every dip in the cup. Funny I've never had this happen with the same brushes and two other Aqua Mix sealers. I'll try a bristle brush and report back. Seems like if there's any wierd stuff to be found with Aqua Mix, I'm gonna get nailed :) Thanks.

Foam brushes can be notorious for frothing with many water based wood finishes as well. Everytime you compress the foam and then release it, a bunch of air gets sucked into the "brush" and minute air bubbles quickly develop. I highly doubt this frothing problem is Aqua Mix specific.
Point is Mike, two other Aqua Mix sealers and one Custom sealer I've used this year don't do it with the same brushes. I've been able to drag a fine line without getting much sealer on the tiles and no foaming at all. Whole different story with the Sealer's Choice. As Dave mentions, it just about has to be a reaction. I'm gonna go put one in for a soak and see what happens. Me curious now :)
Can't speak for any wood finishing problems with these brushes. Never tried them. I always use natural bristle or a mini sprayer for that kinda stuff.

Soaking the brush all night caused a significant color change but no bubble factory.
