New to posting on this forum, but been lurking for a while. I recently moved into a house that is about 25 years old. I am trying to clean up a marble entryway. There is a coat of wax on the marble that I was told by the previous owners was put on about 1989, and not touched since. The grout is black from years of dirt, but you can see some un-trafficked sections (in the coat closet) where the grout is clean and practically invisible cause it was originally almost the same color as the marble.

So I've been using Stonetech's Heavy Duty Coating Stripper to remove the wax, and having a tough time. I experimented on sections of the marble by mixing the stripper with varying amounts of water, and leaving it on for varying times. I am now up to full strength, and leaving it on for the recommended maximum time of 60 minutes, followed by nylon brush scrubbing, per the directions. But, when I go over the marble with a razor blade I am still scraping up wax that the Stripper didn't break down. After the wax removal, I try to clean the grout, but not doing too well. Some of the grout lines look clean, but others are still dark.

I am guessing that wax on some of the grout lines is preventing them from being cleaned. Am I right? Any advice from this forum on getting that grout clean (before I go nuts with frustration) would be appreciated.
Jim

My guess is that stripper isn't able to cut that wax, or sealer,or polyurethane, and you may need to experiment with ammonia, acetone, denatured alcohol, goo-b-gone,or another stripper.I don't think any of these will harm the stone.
